During the week as I was watching Noah and Davian play they caught my attention when the first thing they ran to in a house full of toys was... An empty box! so i thought to myself "Really, of all things, an empty box? Why not play with the train sets, the soccer balls or even the race cars I set out for them? Whats so special about an empty brown cardboard box?" So I quietly sat back and continued to watch them play together. Now even though they cannot speak many words or even complete sentences to each other they found ways to interact, communicate, and play together with this empty brown box. They colored the box, traded crayons, made race car sounds, danced around and jumped out of the box at each other. These two had played in, out, left, right, up and down with this box and all I could hear the entire time was the joyous sound of laughter coming from the kitchen which in my sense translates as music to my ears!
Watching them reminded me of the all the possibilities an empty box could have been with a wild imagination like theirs. It could have been a fort, a hide out, a race car, a boat, a house, or even a blank canvas to color on! The possibilities seem almost endless when you are that age! In complete awe I quickly grabbed my camera and quietly caught a few of these enchanting moments of these two adorable boys sharing the joys of a brown empty box.
